Local Makers events coming up!

Hello sparkly people,

The Season is upon us and It’s Time To...

… support Handmade

… support local

… support small business!

There’s exciting stuff happening locally (but also still a fair bit available online for those who aren’t in Edinburgh). I’d like to invite you to a couple of events Sparklewear will be appearing at soon:

26th / 27th November, Abbeymount Open Studios, 12-6pm

3rd December, Drill Hall Arts Market, 11am-5pm

Earring by Little Bird Design (Edinburgh) made from upcycled inner tube and bright fabric off cuts.

On the 3rd December at the Drill Hall I am excited to share my stall with Little Bird Design who make super-fabulous earrings (and more) out of old bicycle tyres. Featuring Sparklewear fabric off cuts!

Also some new and cute Sparklewear products to suit different budgets as well as - obviously – plenty cycling vests, screen printed and upcycled...

A few reasons why buy local and handmade (you’ll know already but no harm throwing it in here...):

Handmade products tend to be greener as they are usually made in smaller batches and with a sense of resourcefulness, and they are made to last. They are bought consciously and valued more highly so less likely to be thrown out when the next best thing arrives (like a top from Primark...).

Handmade products are often unique - they are made individually, beautifully and with care.

And it’s lovely to meet the people who made your product!

Buying handmade products locally supports the local economy. It doesn’t support Amazon.

And let’s be honest, we all (or at least most of us…? Definitely me!) like to buy and own things, whether we like living in the age of consumerism or not. Buying locally and handmade makes you a responsible consumer. And whilst you support an independent maker you get something truly unique and beautiful at the same time - a win-win situation 😇

So this season enjoy the excitement of shopping for unique handmade treasures at craft fairs, markets and local shops. Look out for independent sellers on small business websites and Etsy where you can. There’s always lots of sparkling new stuff out there by inspired makers.

Look forward to seeing some of you in person,

all the best, Isi ⭐️💕
